Vintage Events and other fun...

Fred Kolman started his collection in the late 1970's. In the beginning he bought, sold, traded and wheeled and dealed, but in the last 10 years he has not sold any of the classics. He prefers to keep them all for the ever growing collection. Now, he collects for the pure love of bikes.

At last count there were over 100 bikes in his collection, all in different stages of condition.

Fred's preference are European bikes, specially British, although there seems to be a lot of Japanese in the collection as well.

Fred acquired these bikes in a variety of ways. Since he's been involved in the industry all of his life, and bikes ARE his life, he has made a lot of contacts over the years. Some models that he really wanted were sourced out, some he found out about just talking with people, and some of them just fell on his lap. People often need to get rid of a classic, but want it to go to a "good home" and prefer that it go to a museum instead of being used. These people tend to come back and "visit" their baby from time to time.

The bikes are all in different conditions. Some were bought already restored by the previous owner, some were restored in house at Wheelsport, and some of the more prestigious pieces (like the Ariel Square Four) were sent off to professionals.

Fred still rides some of them periodically, but for the most part they are on display for everyone to see and enjoy.

Most of the Minis and Japanese MX bikes you see on these pages are because of Jim Kolman. These are the bikes from his generation. Bikes like the Honda Elsinores, the Yamaha TY 175 Trials and Bultaco Frontera are bikes that he rides and competes on a few times a year.

We hope you enjoy browsing through our online museum and invite you to drop into our store to see some of them in person some time.
